God, but I hope that this post can pull me out of the hole of not updating that I've dug for myself through not posting. Also, I hope that it counts. I'm only counting the words that I have written in response, so everything should be kosher.

[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
If I didn't then this wouldn't be posted in the first place.

[02] Would you do meth if it was legal?
What the hell kind of question is that? Would I willingly destroy my body by taking a drug that over time will utterly destroy my brain? No, thank you. While one formulation of the drug can be used to treat Attention Deficit Disorder, it generally isn't. And yes, it can be used clinically to treat narcolepsy and obesity, it generally is used only as a last resort. And even then, it is only used when other, safer drugs cause too many unwanted side effects. Besides, I have enough going on in my life. I don't need an addiction to complicate it further.

[03] Abortion: for or against it?
Generally, against. As Wombat pointed out, there are plenty in this world who desperately want to adopt children. That being said, I do support abortion in cases where the life of the mother is at stake. Beyond that, however, I do not condone it.

[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
No. The world has been through quite a bit, and that includes female presidents. Doesn't matter what gender or race the president is, we will pull through. Even if the president is grossly incompetent, we will survive, as there are failsafes put into place to allow us to correct such mistakes.

[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
Yes, I do. You would be a fool not to believe in it, as it plainly does exist. Now, as to the question of whether I believe it should be used, I again say yes. While I am allfor 'turn the other cheek', there are some times where it cannot and should not be applied. To do so would be to risk harm to oneself or (even worse), harm to others.

[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Yes, as well as all currently illicit substances. Not only that, but the Government should create and sell same substances, charging only enough to cover overhead. Make real opiates for the masses, as it were. That way we can (as Wombat put it so beautifully) let Darwin's Chainsaw work things out.

[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
I've found that the older I get, the more I am against it. It's caused a lot of issues for me, and I really don't want other people going through the same. That's not tosay that I am for making it illegal, simply that there should be frank and honest discussions as to the consequences.

[08] Do you believe in God?
I do.

[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Let me preface this by saying that I believe that marriage licenses are, at their core, unnecessary. I believe that the most the government should involve themselves with is recording that a marriage or civil union took place. As to same-sex marriage, I do not support it. Don't get me wrong, though. As with my disagreement with premarital sex, simply because I do not support it does not mean that I want it made illegal. I have a much longer post in the works about this issue, so I'm going to leave this as it it.

[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
All through growing up, I have been told that my Mami Ea came to this country legally. To allow people to come here without going through what she did is an insult to her hard work and dedication to this country. If that seems to personal, why not apply the same to everyone who has come here looking for a new beginning, all the while going through all of the paperwork needed get here honestly. As to those who are clamoring that they should be treated equally, I will agree so long as one condition is met. They will be treated equally when they cross those borders legally.

[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
Assuming that the girl can provide for the child on her own, is well-versed in the care and raising of children, knows the consequences of having a child, is fully aware of the responsibility needed, and is in fact four to six years older than twelve, then yes. If she does not meet those criteria, I do not think she should keep the child.

[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
Yes, I do. As it stands, in the state of Maryland it is legal for someone under the age of 21 to drink and posess alcohol provided that it is with the consent of the parent(s)/guardian(s) and is kept on private property. Note that this does not allow the underage person to purchase the alcohol, simply to own and drink it. Nifty what you can learn when you research, isn't it? And for those of you who want to learn more, click this link, and select your state.

[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
In response, simply a counter question. Have we accomplished what we set out to do?

[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
Really, it depends on the definition of 'assisted'. If you mean someone else is responsible for actually ending the life, I agree with keeping it outlawed. If, however, it means simply providing the tools necessary, I do not think it should be banned. Elsewise one could make a case that those who sell firearms and ammunition should be held accountable for deaths they did not cause. And before you tell me that this is occasionally already the case, I do know that there are people out there suing firearms manufacturers and sellers for similar reasons.

[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
In moderation, yes. I also believe in rewarding good behaviour. However, both must be used in moderation, lest good behaviour sought only for reward.

[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
No. I don't support the burning of the flag except to retire it. There are those who call it free speech, but it really is simply desecration of a symbol that embodies the country. To deface it is tantamount to defacing the United States. I don't think that it can be called 'free speech' when used to purposefully desecrate it. Talk trash about the country, I'm fine with that. I'll even defend your right to do so. Burn the flag? I become distinctly less supportive.

[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?
Every election year for me is really tiresome. Everyone asks who I will cast my vote for, and every time people are met with confusion at my answer. The above is yet another example of the ignorance that is suffused throughout our culture. This is not a two-party system, and it is a disgrace to the Framers to make it seem so. As for who I would pick, given the choices presented above? McCain. However, it's like asking me which I would prefer: Being struck by lightning, or drinking poison?

[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
I'm not afraid that I will be judged for my answers. I know that I will be, but it is time people stopped being afraid of the consequences of speaking their minds. Silence will only cause people to ignore you. We should not be afraid of reprisal. Do you think that the Founding Fathers were afraid of the consequences of their actions? If they were, they had the balls to follow through with their plans anyhow.

That's all of them. Not enough to pull me out of my writing slump, and not even enough to fill my quota for the day. This makes me either one or two days behind, I am not sure. Also, I seem to have run out of things to talk about for today, so I shall append what little I wrote yesterday in order to fill out today's post. Boy howdy, I hate writer's block. Anyway, these next three paragraphs have absolutely nothing to do with any of the rest of this post. Just a warning, you see.

In browsing through Snopes today I discovered precisely why, at my old job, we were always sold out of Dust-Off compressed air. As it turns out, many people used it to get high off of. I don't understand what would make people think that huffing is safe. Let alone huffing compressed air. Those things are powered by propellants, and in Dust-Off's case I believe it is a refrigerant. Putting that crap in your lungs is just begging to be killed. I can only be forced to conclude that kids are retarded.

Tekkon Kinkreet. I'm fairly certain that I have never talked about this movie on here before. I purchased it a while ago, on speculation that it would be good. After all, it was done by the same studio that brought us The Animatrix. I must admit, that Studio 4°C did not disappoint. I watched it once, and was hooked. Everything about it... clicks. That's not quite the word I'm looking for, but it will have to do. The movie flows beautifully from one scene to the next, and the music is indescribably beatiful.

Heck, sometimes I watch the movie simply to listen to the music. Fully half of the experience in this movie is from letting the music pull you. Don't get me wrong, though. The other half is the story itself. Well, the story and the visuals. So, I suppose I believe that the music is responsible for about as much of why I like the movie as everything else combined. How the movie came about is also interesting, too. As to how that happened, though, I would recommend you watch for yourself.

That brings my wordcount to somewhere fast approaching 1700, so that's where I shall leave everything. Goodnight everybody, and stay safe out there.
  • One of the many things I learned that I really wish I hadn't: people will snort all kinds of crap to get high. Paint thinner. Spray paint. Gasoline. Permanent markers. Just about any volatile organic chemical will do to screw up your brain, and some people are sufficiently ignorant/stupid that they'll try just about anything.

    Sometimes people are just depressing.
