Sadness, Sickness

Right. So, my sister got into a car accident earlier this evening. I misplaced my phone, so my first knowledge of this was when my Dad's fiancé got home, came to my room, and asked me for my Mom's phone number. When I asked why she needed it, she told me that my sister was in an accident and we needed to reach my mother. After I gave her the number, I rushed to get my shoes on. By the time they were tied to my feet, Brenda had already left. So, having almost no gas in my own car, I stayed home, worrying about my sister.

After fretting for what seemed like hours, the doorbell rang twice. I leapt up and answered the door, whereupon I met a state trooper. I immediately jumped to the conclusion that my dear sweet sister had perished, and started really panicking. Thankfully, the opposite was true, and all he needed was to return my sister's license and registration, as well as deliver the preliminary crash report and ask for her to fill out some forms as soon as she was able.

Apparently, my sister's car is completely totaled. Which means that I will probably get to play taxi driver for a little while. Which is absolutely fine by me, considering how much worse the circumstances could be. But I do have one thing that really bothers me, and that is the fact that I was unable to rush to my sister's side to make sure she was alright. That's the job of a brother, right? Which means I failed her tonight. After all she has done to help me, I failed to be there for her. And to be quite honest, it hurts.
