While, yes, it was quite unexpected that a delinquent member of the Heinlein Society was given a book as a gift, it was interesting for quite another reason entirely.
A couple of weeks ago, I was feeling in the mood for some nice Sword & Sorcery to balance out all of the Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, and Internet Surfing I had been doing. So, I went to my handy Heinlein Shelf to grab Glory Road. Much to my chagrin, it wasn't there. So, I checked the Heinlein Drawer. Don't ask me why I have a desk Drawer with Heinlein novels in it; I just do. However, Glory Road was once again absent.
So, with much trepidation, I went to my UnRead Bookshelf. Some Zelaznys, Albert Camus, Piers Anthony, Fritz Lieber, Fritz Lieber, Fritz Lieber. I grabbed the first Lieber novel off the shelf, mainly to find out what it was. Turns out it was Swords And Deviltry, with a short quote on the inside stating that it contained swordsmen even more talented than Scar Gordon! I read the book, was slightly dissappointed, but had my need for fantasy satiated.
And still, I was wondering where in the Twenty Unverses my Glory Road had gone! Well, until this morning, that is. All I know is that I have a shiny new hardbound reissue of the Master's excellent fantasy/sci-fi novel, and all is well.
That, and I seriously need to pay my Society dues.
